“A Century in the Pursuit of Data” Conference Held at FEAS

As part of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), the “A Century in the Pursuit of Data” conference was held at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (FEAS) of Pamukkale University (PAU). The event, held on April 30, was attended by Vice Rector Ersan Öz, TURKSTAT Regional Director Özer Coşkun, TURKSTAT Statistics Group Manager Tuncay Moralı, TURKSTAT employees, and many students from the FEAS faculty.

Delivering the opening speech of the event, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ersan Öz emphasized the strategic importance of data in the digital age through current events and personal experiences.

The conference also featured a video screening titled “TURKSTAT in the Printed Press,” which presented reflections of TURKSTAT’s century-long history in the written media. The video documented how the institution found its place in the national press throughout its historical development.

In his presentation addressing the establishment of the institution, its working principles, and career opportunities within its structure, TURKSTAT Regional Director Özer Coşkun drew attention to different areas of specialization. TURKSTAT Statistics Group Manager Dr. Tuncay Moralı delivered a comprehensive presentation on demographic structure, the historical development and methods of population censuses, and also included global population distribution and future projections in the presentation.

The conference concluded following the question-and-answer session and plaque presentation.
